Dunhill d-eight Black Business Card Holder

filed under Dunhill

dunhill d-eight blackWill embossing the d-eight motif on the coated canvas ensure the longevity of dunhill's d-eight collection? We think it will. This business card holder from dunhill's new d-eight Black collection is bold, masculine and distinct and still does its job of holding a generous stack of business cards very well.

Dunhill Online Store Celebrates 1st Anniversary With 15% Off Everything

filed under Dunhill

A year ago, dunhill opened its online store with nolittle hype. The site looks boring and it almost seems like they make no attempt to excite desires for their products. What makes it worse is that the pages take forever to load. Nevertheless there's a good reason to visit dunhill's online store now - they are celebrating their first anniversary with a 15% discount off everything.

According to the website, the sale is on "for the next six days" so I can only assume that it's from October 16th to the 21st.

Visit the dunhill Online Store at http://store.dunhill.com.

At Mensfolio.com, we decided to join in the celebration by offering a 15% discount off dunhill leather goods as well. Shop our sale at http://mensfolio.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=11.

Will Jude Law Do It For Dunhill?

filed under Dunhill

dunhill Ensign walletIt's hard to keep up with dunhill these days. The brand has been extremely prolific, churning out collection after collection of leather goods. But I guess it's no surprise since dunhill's still a brand in transition. It's figuring out how it can reach out to a younger demographic group while not alienating its loyal customers. And with each collection, it feels as if they are experimenting with what works and what doesn't.

There are recurring themes which should be a good indication as to what sells. Sidecar leather sells. d-eight monogram sells. And it seems that the nylon stripe webbing sells too, making its appearance in a number of recent collections, including the just-launched dunhill Ensign.

Ensign's soft tumbled leather was supposedly inspired by a dunhill driving jacket from the 1990s. The dark brown cowhide does go really well with the brown/green/white stripe webbing. If the red/green/white stripe can be such a huge success for Gucci, why can't the brown/green/white stripe be for dunhill?

It also help that Jude Law is the new face of dunhill, and the marketing campaigns feature the delectable actor with different Ensign leather goods.

Here are the wallets we offer from dunhill Ensign collection:

Obituary: Dunhill London Wallet, 2003 to 2006

filed under Dunhill

My dunhill walletToday, I finally decided to replace my wallet that had served me for the last two and a half years. It's a 8CC dunhill wallet from the London collection (see left).

Actually I'm amazed I could stick with this wallet for such a long time (2 1/2 years is long for me) because I never really liked it. I've got no complaints about the design. In my eyes, it's definitely one of the most stylish dunhill collections and it bears my favorite "d" logo, which you can no longer find on the newer collections. (The logo hardware on the newer collections look really lame). However the leather scratches so easily that it became really stressful carrying it. And for some reasons, it's rather sticky so fine particles get stuck on the leather as well. I have no idea why.

So anyway, after two and a half years of gentle usage, there are countless scratch marks on the front and back of the wallet. So I decided to ditch it. My new wallet is one by Aigner. I had an enjoyable time transferring stuff from my old dunhill wallet to my new Aigner wallet. And it has a slot that's ideal for 5-6 pieces of business cards. That's a pleasant surprise.

It's been a long time since I carried a wallet with an I.D. window. This new wallet has one. Initially I filled it up with my driver's license. Then I thought it looked really pathetic, or rather it makes me feel really pathetic. So I just left it empty, for the time being.

Lightweight D-eight Proves To Be A Dunhill Heavyweight

filed under Dunhill

dunhill d-eightThe d-eight collection marks dunhill's foray into the monogram industry where other venerable brands like Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Coach have found immense success with their captivating motifs.

d-eight, as the name implies, is a pattern made up of repetitive sets of eight interlocking "d"s. The pattern doesn't look quite as distinctive as that of Louis Vuitton or Gucci and it has to do with the fact that the dark brown "d"s are printed on black canvas. But actually I like it this way. Monogram accessories can look ostentatious and loud on a guy, especially when those logos are printed on large items such as a briefcase or a messenger bag.

Typical of dunhill leather products, d-eight is extremely durable. I got myself a d-eight messenger bag about 2 years ago and it looks as good as new, even though I've been throwing it around. And it's incredibly light, a key success factor of this travel collection.

d-eight is also the most attractively-priced collection. The wallets are about USD60-70 cheaper than its counterparts so it's great value for money since all d-eight wallets and small leather goods are also manufactured in either France or Italy.

What I don't like about the d-eight collection is that the wallets tend to be rather thick because of the canvas material. Hence it can be very bulky. If I were to choose a d-eight wallet, I'll probably go for a simple one with credit card slots only.

Dunhill Confidential Destined To Remain Highly Confidential

filed under Dunhill

dunhill Confidential If dunhill's intention is to make dunhill Confidential a well-kept secret, I must congratulate them because I think they succeeded in doing so. The collection is frankly forgettable and will most likely fade into obscurity among dunhill's many collections of leather goods.

When I first saw the collection on the catalog, I was drawn to the black exterior and tan interior lining. I'm a sucker for two-tone wallets. I find them a lot more interesting. Cartier did a great job with the Cabochon collection of black and burgundy calfskin wallets. Mont Blanc also successfully launched the Boheme collection in black lizard-embossed calfskin with French lambskin lining in red or grey.

But somehow, dunhill Confidential fails to pull it off even though black/tan is arguably the safest color combination. I think it has a lot to do with the calfskin that's used in this collection. Sad to say, it looks cheap. And that's ironic given that Confidential is one of dunhill's most expensive collections of leather goods. It scratch quite easily too so that makes it worse.

A nice logo hardware may just save the day but unfortunately, the squarish palladium-plated logo hardware looks terribly boring.

It may not be easy to convince even die-hard dunhill fans to shell out USD250 for a Confidential wallet. I know I'm not convinced.

Dunhill Hits The Right Note With Sidecar Amber

filed under Dunhill

dunhill_sidecar.jpgFollowing the success of the Sidecar collection, dunhill launched Sidecar Amber towards the end of 2004 that combines techno-nylon with the distinctive bitter-chocolate cowhide leather.

I love dunhill Sidecar leather because it's scratch-resistant and the leather ages well with use. And you must hand it to them for describing the dark-brown leather as "bitter-chocolate".

What I don't quite like about the original Sidecar collection is that the wallets tend to be rather rigid. Somehow when the Sidecar leather is combined with the soft nylon, the wallets feel much softer to the touch. And it's lighter too.

Most importantly, I like the Amber-color lining that truly exemplifies dunhill's attention to details.
